Youth Karate

In our Youth Karate classes, we teach how to strike with power, move with balance and coordination, and avoid being hit. We employ traditional training methods (forms/kata, repetition, emphasis on proper technique and body mechanics) while stressing the practical application for self-defense to develop a solid foundation for martial arts proficiency as an adult. Forms (kata) serve as our link to traditional training methods and is a proven method for developing powerful stances and understanding of body mechanics. We supplement karate with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. This is NOT a mixed martial arts class. The focus is on self-defense, not sport.

Adult Karate

In our Adult Karate classes, we teach how to strike with power, move with balance and coordination, and avoid being hit. Each class consists of a brief warm-up stretch followed striking drills (kicking and punching bags/pads), sparring drills, and forms (kata) practice. Forms (kata) serve as our link to traditional training methods and is a proven method for developing powerful stances and understanding of body mechanics. We supplement karate with Gracie jiu-jitsu for defense at close range and on the ground and borrow some techniques and training methodology from tae kwon do, boxing, wrestling, and krav maga.  However, this is NOT a mixed martial arts class. The focus is on self-defense, not sport.

The Tang Soo Do Difference

Building a Strong Foundation for a Lifelong Journey

1. Tradition with Purpose

Our curriculum blends time-honored forms (kata), drills, and striking techniques that develop powerful stances, strong movement, and mental focus. Each technique has a real-world self-defense purpose—never taught just for show.

2. Practical Self-Defense

Students learn how to block, evade, and counter with confidence. We teach techniques that are age-appropriate and immediately applicable—building skills to stay calm and safe in real-life scenarios..

3. Structured Environment

Classes are disciplined, but not rigid. We emphasize focus, effort, and respect—qualities that help students succeed in school, work, and everyday life. Our goal is to challenge each student in a supportive and ego-free environment.
